At the turn of the year, Paul King’s “Wonka” dominated cinemas. It was extremely popular in its first week of screening. “Wonka” is a film inspired by the extraordinary hero of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, the most famous children’s book by Roald Dahl and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time. The film tells the story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolatier improbably became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

On Saturday, an unusual situation took place at Box Hub Warehouse. The ‘Willy Wonka Experience’, an event advertised as a journey full of wonders, turned into a nightmare for families who paid up to £35 for a ticket. When they arrived, instead of the promised optical illusions and chocolate fountains, the participants found themselves in an empty warehouse. The adults did not hide their fury, and some of the children reacted by crying. The organizer, House of Illuminati, decided to cancel the event and opted for full refunds.
Eva Stewart, 19, from East Kilbride, shared her disappointment with BBC Scotland News. “It was advertised as a big, massive Willy Wonka adventure with optical illusions and huge chocolate fountains and candy, but when we got there it was basically an abandoned, empty warehouse with almost nothing inside,” he reports.
In a January post, the organizers described the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”-themed event as a place where “dreams come true.” However, the reality turned out to be much less rosy, which prompted participants to create a Facebook group to express their dissatisfaction.
