Eurovision 2024 will start on May 7 and last until May 11. This year’s edition will take place in Sweden exactly 50 years after the group’s legendary victory ABBA. Representatives of 37 countries will take part in the competition, including: returning after over 30 years of absence Luxembourg. There will be no more in the mix eventually Romaniawho withdrew from the competition for financial reasons.
Until the last moment, people wondered whether Israelwhich tried to smuggle a political message into its proposals, will receive a “green light” from the European Broadcasting Union and whether countries that protested against this country’s participation in the competition will take part in the event.
Ultimately, Israel, after changes to the lyrics of the song, Eden Golan from “Hurracaine” was admitted to the competition, and the protesting countries – Finland, Norwayand above all Iceland – announced that their representatives would also appear in Malmo.
They were the last to present their Eurovision proposals Armenia (Ladaniva – “Jako”) and Azerbaijan (Fahree feat. Ilkin Dovlatov – “Özünlə Apar”).
Let us remind you that she became the Polish representative Aleksandra WielgomasThat is Glow, which will try to conquer Sweden with the song “The Tower”. TVP chose the singer as part of internal pre-selection. The decision was made by the jury composed of: Kasia Moś, Piotr Klatt, Michał Hanczak, Konrad Szczęsny and Łukasz Pieter.
Glow will perform in the first semi-final (May 7), and her competitors include, among others: representatives: Croatia, Ukraine, Ireland, Lithuania, Finland, Iceland and Cyprus.
Even though Luna’s song has good numbers on YouTube and Spotify, bookmakers are not enthusiastic about the Polish proposal. According to them, Luna is only 26th out of 37 countries to win.
Bookmakers believe that Luna from “The Tower” will fight until the end to advance to the finals of the competition. At the moment, he is in 11th place, which is the first place that is not promoted to the final concert.
Who can win Eurovision this year? The main favorites are the Croatian Baby Lasagna and a duo from Ukraine – Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona. Italy’s chances are also highly rated (Angelina Mango), Switzerland (Nemo) and the Netherlands (JoostKlein). Belgium, Greece, Israel and Sweden are also expected to be at the top of the competition.
It is worth noting, however, that the table and bookmakers’ quotes may change completely. Much will depend on their performances at pre-Eurovision events, proper promotion of the performers, and, above all, their performance during rehearsals before the semi-finals.
