Henderson she played the role of Moaning Myrtle twice – v “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” (2002) and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” (2004). The casting director encouraged her to take part in the casting. However, he advised the actress not to reveal her age. She was 37 years old when the first film was released.
“When I was invited to the first casting, I didn’t know anything about Harry Potter. My sister who was staying with me was reading the books. I wasn’t sure if I should play the role of a 14-year-old,” Henderson recalled.
When the casting director insisted on her audition, she decided to audition. “I went there dressed as a schoolgirl. White shirt, black skirt, ponytail. I thought it was ridiculous,” she recalled. “I played my part, they thanked me. Months passed and I thought nothing would come of it. Then they called my agent to see me again and offered me an engagement.”
Henderson came to the conclusion that offering the role of a 14-year-old ghost to a woman in her fourth decade of life wasn’t the stupidest idea. “Moaning Martha is an old soul with the appearance of a young person. She’s a ghost, so you can have fun with that. My face is never clearly visible in the movies, so we could somehow sell it,” she explained. She added that, unlike other actors from the series, few people recognize her as a character from the Potter series.
Born in 1965, Henderson also starred in two parts “Trainspotting”, “Intermission”“Marie Antoinette” and the series “Dept. Q”. Viewers also recognize her from the series “Bridget Jones’s Diary”in which she played Jude, one of the title character’s best friends.
