M. Emmet Walsh has died. The star of cult films died three days before his 89th birthday

About death M. Emmet Walsh said his manager Sandy Joseph. The actor died on March 19 at his home in St. Albans due to cardiac arrest. He would have celebrated his 89th birthday on Friday.

M. Emmet Walsh was born in Ogdensburg, New York, but grew up in the small town of Swanton in Vermont. He underwent surgery at the age of three. As a result, he was deaf in his left ear, which he later often used in films.

He studied business and administration, but never worked in his profession. After moving to New York, he fell in love with acting and joined the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Soon he started acting on the theater stage. He made his debut on the big screen as an extra in the now cult film “Midnight Cowboy”. In the following years, he appeared in other now legendary productions: “Serpico”, “The Player”, “The Prisoner of Brubaker”, “Ordinary People” and “The Reds”.

Walsh usually received supporting and supporting roles, but he was famous for the fact that although his screen time was limited, he was always able to create a full-bodied character.

This was the case, among others, in the film “Blade Runner” by Ridley Scott, where he played the role of police captain Bryant, working with the main character Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford.

He became famous for his role as private detective Loren Visser in the film “Deadly Simple” by the Coen brothers. For it, he received the only award in his career – Independent Spirit for best actor. “My salary increased fivefold, suddenly everyone wanted me in their films,” he recalled this performance in one of the interviews.

In the following years, he appeared in other famous films: “Critters”, “A Time to Kill”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “My Boyfriend is Getting Married” and most recently “Knives Out”.

Last year, he could be seen on screen in the star-studded comedy “What’s Up”. On March 1, his last film premiered – the western “Outlaw Posse” by Mario Van Peebles.
