Jim Beard is dead. The Steely Dan musician was 63 years old

As reported by American media Jim Beard died in one of New York hospitals, and the cause of death was health complications caused by a sudden illness. The musician died surrounded by his family.

Beard was also farewelled on the site SteelyDan. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our friend and bandmate,” we read.

Born in 1960 in Pennsylvania Jim Beard he was a pianist, composer and producer. He worked, among others, With John McLaughin, Pathne Metheny and Wayne Shorter. On his website, Beard notes that he is the author of over a hundred compositions. Additionally, he has released six solo albums and collaborated with renowned orchestras.

In 2007, he received a Grammy Award for his collaboration on the album Becker Brothers – “Some Skunk Funk” – in the best instrumental jazz album category.

In 2008, Beard joined a rock band SteelyDan, in which he worked until his death. The group performed before The Eagles on their big farewell tour “The Long Goodbye”.

The musician’s last performance with the group took place on January 20 in Phoenix, Arizona.
