Emily Blunt will fight for an Oscar. We remind you of the actress’s most important roles

Emily Blunt was born on February 23, 1983 in London. As a child, she stuttered a lot, it was a huge complex for her, and her peers were not understanding of her condition. This made her even more stressed and she became embarrassed to talk to people. Her parents tried everything to make her life easier – relaxation therapies, recordings of dolphins, visualizations. When the treatment didn’t work, little Emily became even more frustrated. The theater turned out to be my salvation. One of the teachers noticed that during role-playing games, the girl stopped stuttering completely.

Emily Blunt’s film debut was “Boudica” (2003), but the door to her career was opened by a Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski – thanks to her role in his “Summer of Love” (2004), the 21-year-old became the hottest British export in Hollywood. The production told the story of friendship and love between two teenage girls who meet during a holiday in the countryside and quickly become closer to each other, even though they come from different worlds.

The big breakthrough in the star’s career came in 2006. She appeared in the film “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006) – alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The comedy turned out to be a box office success, and Blunt received a Golden Globe nomination for her role, which gave her a chance to become one of the best Hollywood actresses.

There was a lot of talk about Blunt’s next performance (nomination for the Golden Globe again). The actress played the title role in the costume film by Jean-Marc Vallée “Young Victoria” (2009). It was a story about the youthful years of a unique queen, whose reign went down in history as the “Victorian era”. Already as a teenager, Victoria was able to become independent from her possessive mother and her unsympathetic husband, and a month after her 18th birthday she became Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Soon after, fate brought Prince Albert into her path and the young monarch’s heart began to beat faster.

In 2018, the thriller premiered “Quiet place”, a story about a family of five trying to survive in a world full of monsters that pose a mortal danger and are attracted by the slightest noise. Blunt played the film’s beloved John Krasinski, who in his private life is her… husband. He also directed “A Quiet Place.”

The production was very popular and praised by critics, resulting in its sequel – “A Quiet Place 2”, which appeared in cinemas in 2021.

In 2018, the star also played the title role in Rob Marshall’s musical “Mary Poppins Returns”, adaptation of the novel by PL Travers. Her heroine helped the new generation of the Banks family find joy and delight in life that they had lost in the gray everyday life. As usual, the reliable nanny and her magical abilities turned every task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure! For the title role in the production, the actress received her sixth Golden Globe nomination.

One of Emily Blunt’s latest creations comes from Christopher Nolan’s self-titled production “Oppenheimer”. The star played the wife of the title character called the “godfather of the atomic bomb”. For her role, she was nominated for awards such as: Golden Globe, BAFTA and Critics’ Choice in the Best Supporting Actress category. She won the Saturn statuette. The star will compete in this year’s Oscars. The awards will be presented on March 10, 2024.
