The farewell, worldwide tour of the Californian thrash metal legend lasted a year and a half and was divided into seven parts and a series of performances at the largest summer festivals. As part of it, the band from Huntington Park in Los Angeles County played over 140 concerts in 30 countries and 40 American states. The tour also had two stops in the country on the Vistula River.
The culmination of their farewell journeys around the world was Slayer’s performance at the famous The Forum entertainment and sports hall in Inglewood, California, a suburb of his hometown of Los Angeles. This is how it ended “The Final Campaigne”.
After the final classic sounds “Angel Of Death” Tom Araya, Slayer’s bass vocalist, did not hide his emotion as he thanked fans for nearly 40 years of shared adventure. “I would like to thank you for the time you spent with us. Time is a precious thing. So thank you for spending it with us. I will miss you. But most of all, thank you for being a part of my life,” said the Chilean-born frontman, his voice breaking.
The last studio album by the current members of the German Nuclear Blast Records is the album released in 2015 “Repentless”. Later, the Americans released concert material “The Repentless Killogy” with a performance that took place on August 5, 2017, in the exact same hall in Inglewood where Slayer’s last concert took place.
Now the members of Slayer have announced their return to the stage! So far, they have announced two concerts in the USA – on Louder Than Life (September 27, Louisville) and Riot Fest (September 22, Chicago).
“It hits you when you least expect it,” we read on the band’s website. The band returns with the line-up it had before its breakup: Tom Araya, KerryKing, Gary Holt and Paul Bostaph.
Speculation immediately appeared on the Internet, because let us remind you that Kerry King has started a new project, which you can read more about here. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the famous American guitarist also said that he had not spoken to vocalist and bassist Tom Araya since Slayer’s farewell concert.
“Me and Tom always had different opinions. When I wanted a chocolate shake, he preferred a vanilla one. ‘Kerry, what color is the sky?’ Blue. ‘Tom, what color is the sky?’ Białe. We are different from each other, which only deepened with age. So there is no way we can spend time together, but it does not change the fact that we created great music together and played great concerts,” he noted. “Not a text message, not even an e-mail. If Tom wanted to contact me, I would probably answer. It depends on what the case is, but at the moment I don’t wish him any harm,” he added.
In the same conversation, the former Slayer guitarist also did not spare bitter words towards the drummer Dave Lombardo, who was kicked out of the band in 2013 amid a conflict over unfair income distribution. “No. Lombardo is dead to me,” Kerry King replied when asked if he had spoken to the former Slayer drummer since then.
