“Detective: Nightland” with record viewership. Critics divided

The action of the fourth season “Detective” takes place in the town of Ennis, Alaska. The investigation into the disappearance of six men working at the local Arctic station is led by Detective Liz Danvers (played by Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Cali Reis). They must face not only the darkness lurking inside them, but also the secrets hidden deep under the crust of eternal snow.

In addition to Jodie Foster and Kali Reiss, the production also stars: Aka Niviana, Isabella Star LeBlanc, Joel D. Montgrand, John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett and Anna Lambe. The writer, director, showrunner and executive producer of the series “True Detective: Nightfall” is Issa Lopez (“Tigers Are Not Afraid”), and one of the producers is Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”).

According to Variety, in the United States, the final episode of the series “Detective: Night Land” attracted 3.2 million viewers of HBO and subscribers of the Max platform. Viewership was 57% higher than the premiere episode, which was released in January.

In Poland, “Detektyw: Land of Night” was also very popular. According to data from Nielsen and Warner Bros. Discovery the first four episodes were watched by 12.7 million viewers. The broadcast of the first two episodes attracted higher viewership than in the case of such hits as “Sukcesja” or “Biały Lotos”.

Although the series attracted huge crowds, some critics’ reviews are not as enthusiastic as the viewing figures. “A decent, honest summary of the latest season of True Detective – a show that I thought started out great, but at the finale I laughed out loud and thought it was a bit of a disaster,” says Jonathan Dean on X.
