“This song rocks – impressive”, “Brilliant death metal”, “Absolute destruction on the drums”, “I wasn’t even in the mood for something like that, but damn, it’s good”, “They have no equal”, “Death metal of the highest order” – we read in the comments about the new song of the Americans.

Let’s clarify that they were created in 2020, Florida Malefic Throne is composed of three musicians well known to fans of the American death metal scene, i.e. the founder and the guitarist Gene Palubickilong-time member of, among others, cult Angelcorpse; vocalist playing bass Steve Tucker from the legendary Morbid Angel; and John Longstrethdrummer Origin and Hate Eternalwho performed with Palubicki in Angelcorpse in the second half of the 1990s and in 2006-2007.
Three death metal veterans join forces. How was Malefic Throne created?
It is worth adding that all three members of Malefic Throne met in 1997 in the legendary Morrisound studio in Florida, where at the same time Angelcorpse were recording their second, monumental album. “Exterminate”and Morbid Angel was recording “Formulas Fatal To The Flesh” – the fifth longplay by the American death metal giants, and also the first with Steve Tucker as a vocalist.
“The roots of this band go back to the mid-1990s, when Gene, Steve and I met at the Morrisound studio. It’s an amazing feeling to see how these old conversations and meetings have turned into a true celebration of death metal. I have no doubt that this collaboration will be absolutely crushing,” assures John Longstreth.
Malefic Throne before the premiere of “The Conquering Darkness”. What do we already know about the death metal supergroup’s debut album?
The material “The Conquering Darkness” was recorded, mixed and mastered in a New York studio Menegroth, The Thousand Caves (Gorguts, Origin, Atheist) under the eye Colin Marstona recognized producer and musician (including Krallice, Dysrhythmia, Gorguts).
The album cover was painted by an Italian artist Daniele Valerianiwhose works feature recordings including: Dark Funeral, Mayhem and Candlemass. The Malefic Throne logo was created by the son of emigrants from Poland, born in Belgium Christophe Szpajdel (including Emperor, Moonspell).
Gene Palubicki emphasizes that the music created by Malefic Throne is a synthesis of the experiences of all three band members at every stage of its creation, which gives the whole thing a unique dynamic and a new dimension. Drummer John Longstreth described the end result as extremely brutal and hellish nuclear death metal.
“I wanted to create something that was not only a reflection of my own past, but also reached into the past of the other members. That’s not to say, however, that I was trying to make it sound like one of my bands combined with Morbid Angel and Origin. Still, I was aware that Malefic Throne would contain elements that – at least in my understanding – may be more related to their previous endeavors than to anything I have done with any of my bands. So, while Malefic Throne has a distinct characteristic something that could be called ‘my sound’, the composition and arrangement of riffs is not entirely consistent with, for example, Perdition Temple (one of the black / death metal bands in Palubicki’s portfolio). Basically, I tried to outline a framework for the music and the entire structure that more naturally meshes with the past and experiences of the other band members” – the main assumptions regarding the sound of Malefic Throne were already specified in 2022 by Gene Palubicki.
Malefic Throne’s first major album will be released on November 28 by Agonia Records. The renowned metal label from Piła, Greater Poland, has prepared a wide range of editions, including: CD, cassette, four vinyl versions and digital formats.
