Gauthier was born on January 27, 1976. He appeared on the big and small screen for almost a quarter of a century. Early in his career, he played small roles in films, among others “Insomnia” Christopher Nolan, comedy “40 Days and 40 Nights” and horror “Freddy vs. Jason”.
However, he achieved his greatest successes on television. He played in the series “Eureka” for six years (2006-2012). He guest-starred, among others, in “Smallville Confidential” as Toyman, Superman’s opponent, and in “Once Upon a Time”, in which he played William Smee, Captain Hook’s sidekick.
In a message posted on Facebook, Chad Colvin, a representative of the agency representing the actor, confirmed the news of his death. “When his wife told me about it yesterday, I cried in disbelief for hours. (…) Chris was the definition of a character actor. You might not have recognized his name, but you knew that face, that voice, and you knew that if he appeared on screen, you’re in for quite a ride. (…) he always gave his all as soon as the camera was turned on,” he wrote.
Gauthier was also mentioned by Colin O’Donoghue, who played Captain Hook in “Once Upon a Time”. “Rest in peace, Chris! My heart is broken. My love and thoughts are with Erin and your boys. I will miss you, brother. You were the true captain,” the actor wrote on his Instagram account.
