Alec Baldwin indicted! He faces up to 18 months in prison

The trial is scheduled to begin on July 9 Alec Baldwinwho is accused of unintentional manslaughter during an accidental shooting that took place in 2021 on the set of the western film “Rust”.

The court in Santa Fe decided that the jury would be selected on July 9, the first testimony would begin a day later, and the entire trial is scheduled to last eight days and end on July 19.

As Variety reminds, Baldwin’s lawyers, led by Alex Spiro, requested that the trial begin on June 13. “Mr. Baldwin has been struggling with this for several years. We are asking for a speedy trial,” the lawyers demanded. However, for prosecutor Kari Morrissey, this date was unfavorable because of another trial in which she is involved. That’s why she asked for a July or August date.

If convicted, Baldwin faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.

In October 2021, an accident occurred on the set of the western film “Rust”, resulting in the death of 41-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and director Joel Souza was injured. The gun held by Alec Baldwin discharged, injuring two people. It was loaded with real ammunition.

Halyna Hutchins was from Ukraine and grew up on a Soviet military base above the Arctic Circle. She studied journalism in Kiev. She graduated from the Los Angeles Film School. In 2019, the American magazine Cinematographer called her a “rising cinema star”.

Alec Baldwin was accused of firing a revolver, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the western film. Baldwin denies pulling the trigger and says he was told on set that the gun was safe.
