A Boy Called Christmas is a huge holiday film that will debut on Netflix in the United States on Wednesday, November 24. On Friday, November 26th, it will be broadcast on Sky Cinema in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and China, as well as in cinemas across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and China.

In the teaser for A Boy Called Christmas (above), Dame Maggie Smith, who plays Aunt Ruth, tells a gathering of kids that no one had ever heard of Christmas before Nikolas. The King asks for volunteers to travel to the outskirts of the realm and bring back a sliver of magic to give the country’s inhabitants hope. Then we accompany Nikolas on an amazing expedition to find the famous elf village with his adorable mouse friend. The teaser depicts a magical winter wonderland, implying that this film will be more Christmassy than Santa Claus himself. “Nikolas showed the world that anything could happen,” Dame Maggie Smith says in the trailer.
Plot of the story
A Boy Called Christmas tells the storey of Nikolas, a seemingly ordinary young man nicknamed “Christmas,” who embarks on an astonishing journey into the frozen north in search of his father, who is on a quest to uncover the legendary elf settlement of Elfheim.
It’s a perilous journey, and Nikolas encounters numerous hurdles along the way, but he eventually discovers Elfheim, which can only be reached with pure faith. However, he discovers that humans are despised and is placed into a dungeon with a ravenous troll and a truth pixie who is incapable of lying.
There are no spoilers here, but Nikolas goes on quite an adventure, in more ways than one!
Cast of the story
Nikolas is played by newcomer Henry Lawfull, yet he is surrounded by a superb cast. Father Topo is played by Toby Jones (Detectorists), and Aunt Ruth is played by Dame Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey). Father Vodol is played by Jim Broadbent, the star of the Harry Potter films. Nikolas’ mouse pal Miika is voiced by Stephen Merchant (The Office, Jojo Rabbit), and Mother Something is played by Sally Hawkins (Paddington 1 & 2).
