Tomasz Schuchardt gained 50 kilograms. One director said: “This is how I want you”

Tomasz Schuchardt is undoubtedly one of the most talented Polish actors of his generation. Already for his first main film role – w “Baptize” Marcin Wrona – was awarded for the best performance at the Gdynia Film Festival. He also received an award for his stage debut. For several weeks, he has also been the proud owner of the Eagle, but he did not collect it personally because when the Polish Film Awards gala was held, he preferred to take care of his 7-year-old daughter.

“The spotlight is not my cup of tea. There are people made for this, but I have a problem with it. I've been going through a life change for three years and I haven't come to terms with myself yet. I go to therapy” – explains his absence from the Eagles in the latest interview for “Your Style”.

Not long ago, Tomasz Schuchardt – these are his words – often put on a clown mask.

“The silence irritated me, I couldn't find my place in it. I felt obliged to fill this silence, to kill it, and therefore I was extremely loud in many situations.” – says the actor, adding that being “soul of the company” it allowed him to forget about his complexes.

Star “Convicted”, “Great water” and “Murderers” he doesn't hide the fact that he used to be terribly ashamed of his roots.

“In the countryside, I did not have access to the same knowledge as my city colleagues. I felt shame and fear. Instead of throwing myself into learning, I escaped into fooling around, which is what I was great at. At drama school, when asked where I was from, I answered: Gdańsk. I have been taming shame for years” – he recalls in the pages “Your Style”.

It was only at the end of his studies at the Krakow theater school that Schuchardt began to admit that he had grown up in the former state farm village of Sobowidz.

“I started saying loudly that I was from the countryside. And I felt relieved. I could finally dig out this village, draw out good and bad experiences that built me up” – he claims today.

Although origin has not been a problem for Tomasz Schuchardt for a long time, the problem is still the praise given by various people – directors, colleagues, critics and “ordinary” viewers – direct at him.

“When someone praises me, I feel great discomfort, a mixture of shame and embarrassment” – he revealed in the latest interview, assuring, however, that he is actually happy when others like what he does.

The actor admits that in recent years he has undergone a huge metamorphosis, not only internally, but also – visible to the naked eye – physically.

“The difference between my 'slimest' and 'fattest' role is 50 kilograms” – he said “To Your Style”adding that there was only one director who didn't get angry and disappointed when he gained a lot of weight.

“Only Janek (Jan Holoubek – editor's note) didn't scream. Before shooting for 'Big Water' he looked at my corporeality and said: 'Great! This is how I want you.' When I enter Janek's set, I feel safe” – emphasizes Schuchardt.
