“The Killing Kind”: HBO Max with an intriguing proposition. Thriller with romance in the foreground

“The Killing Kind” is a six-episode thriller with the famous z Netflix “The Witcher” Emma Appleton (Renfri played in the first season). The young actress is one of the rising stars of British television, as evidenced by her roles in, among others, critically acclaimed series “Traitors”, “Everything I Know About Love” and “Pistol”. Her screen partner is Colin Morgan, beloved by viewers, whom fans may remember from “The Adventures of Merlin”. Later, the actor slightly changed the profile of his roles and he starred in such productions as “Belfast”, “The Fall”, “The Living and the Dead”“Benjamin”.

Before the series premiere, we had the opportunity to talk to Emma Appleton and producer Paula Cuddy, which answered some of our questions.

What fascinated you about Ingrid?

“I’ve never played a character like Ingrid,” says Emma. “I was intrigued by the script, so by the end of the first episode I wanted to know what would happen next. The dynamics between the two main characters – Ingrid and John – are fascinating – I was interested in how they met, how they found themselves in the situation presented in the series and how the story will unfold. I like it when I have more questions than answers; I love intrigue. I also didn’t have the opportunity to play in a production that was, to some extent, a legal series. It was a great opportunity to delve into the this world. At the end, I met Zara Hayes, who is the creator of the series and shot several episodes, so there were a lot of cool things in this production that I could check off.”

What do you think about the relationship between your heroine and John – the man who turns her life into hell?

“I think sometimes there’s a chemistry between two people that you can’t really explain. They have a certain magnetism between them, time pulls them together and at the same time pushes them apart. Ingrid is fascinated by the way John looks at her he never looked at me, he treated me exceptionally. It’s easy to become infatuated with someone who means everything to you. How they meet is also quite mysterious, their relationship matures in hiding from others. And finally, when it turns out that not everything is as it seems, the question arises: is John a good guy for Ingrid? Is he falling in love with the wrong person? This is actually a very universal question. Often in my circle of friends we would wonder whether a certain guy was okay or not. The series’ John seems like a really nice guy. Its cute. And then…then all these things happen.”

Series “The Killing Kind” is an adaptation of the popular novel by Jane Casey. How much does the ministerial differ from the source material? Series producer Paula Cuddy thinks so You always have to take the author with you on this series journey, but you can’t give up on some changes. After all, television adaptations have their own rules.

“The greatest compliment for a producer when working on a book adaptation is when the author recognizes the characters he created and their world in the series,” reveals Interia.

“Jane Casey was satisfied with the script and the actors chosen for the main roles, i.e. Emma and Colin. Then it was necessary to become interested in the material, that is, to fit three-quarters of the book into six one-hour episodes of a commercial television series. You must take the author with you on this journey and be inquisitive, transparent and respectful of the original text. At the same time, you have to be aware that the audience expects certain things from the drama, so the characters, questions about the legal system, issues related to women – all this had to be presented appropriately. Each thread had to arise organically. We changed the ending of this story – of course, after talking to the author, who is satisfied with the final product, which is a great compliment to me,” he concludes.

Ingrid Lewis is the first big role in Emma Appleton’s career. And very emotionally exhausting. What were the biggest challenges the actress faced?

“The challenge was that the entire story is told from Ingrid’s point of view. I know it sounds a bit abstract, but then you look at your schedule and you’re in almost every scene – it’s rare to have a role like this. Being in a production like this tests your limits, skills and perseverance. I was lucky to be supported by a great team. I must admit that playing the role of the heroine, who goes through so much in such a short time is very intense. You pretend, but you feel all of your character’s emotions – you’re scared, you’re paranoid. You carry it with you, so at some point you have to go home or get a massage. Without a dedicated and great team, this wouldn’t be possible,” says Appleton.
