“Stranger Things” is undoubtedly one of the biggest series hits of recent years. Brothers production Duffer about a group of brave teenagers fighting monsters from another dimension, attracted a huge audience and became a Netflix hit.
The final, fifth season of “Stranger Things” was divided into three parts – the first four episodes were released on the platform on November 27 (2 a.m. Polish time), the next three will premiere on December 26 (2 a.m.), and the last one will appear on January 1, 2026 (2 a.m.).
“Stranger Things” is a hit on Netflix. What do we already know?
They prepared original music for the series Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein from the group Survive. Their work was noticed by the creators of “Stranger Things” who heard it in the film “Guest” from 2014. Dixon and Stein were hired to work even before casting for the series began.
However, well-known songs reminiscent of the 80s created a sensation. The official “Stranger Things” playlist on Spotify has over 200 songs. We chose five recordings that were most memorable to viewers.
“Stranger Things”: Not only Kate Bush and Metallica
In the finale of the third season, the song plays a key role “Never Ending Story” Limahl from 1984. This piece has already gone down in the history of cinematography because it comes from a fantasy film “The Neverending Story”. At the time of its premiere, the film directed by Wolfgang Petersen was the most expensive production outside the USA and the Soviet Union, but it still earned much more (over $100 million). Song performed Limahl and BethAnderson (she replaced her in the music video Mandy Newton) in the UK reached number 4 on the charts. It traditionally did even better in German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and Scandinavia.
In “Stranger Things” we can hear “Never Ending Story” performed by the series’ characters: Dustin (Gaten Materazzo) and Suzie (Gabriella Pizzolo). As Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein later recalled, the song wouldn’t get out of the crew members’ heads. However, the effect exceeded expectations – within a few days after the episode was broadcast, the number of views and listens to the original version of Limahl on streaming services increased by approximately 800 percent.
A similar thing happened with other hits from years ago, which after appearing in “Stranger Things” gained new life on the charts.
Kate Bush: ‘Running Up That Hill’ saves Max’s life
From the album “Hounds of Love” piece “Running Up That Hill” Kate Bush he first appeared in the premiere episode of the fourth season, but made the greatest impression in the fourth episode. The song you listen to on your Walkman literally saves the life of one of the series’ characters, Max (in this role Sadie Sink).
Interestingly, privately she is a big fan of the singer Winona Ryderplaying Joyce Byers. “Since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with her. For the last seven years, I have expressed it by wearing Kate Bush T-shirts. She is my hero,” said the actress.
Thanks to “Stranger Things”, the singer returned to the charts after more than three decades, becoming the oldest artist of all time with number 1 in the British chart. Up to PLN 250,000 was supposedly transferred to her account weekly. pounds. Kate Bush herself did not hide her satisfaction with this turn of events, thanking young fans for a new life for “Running Up That Hill”.
The song also had a key importance for the plot in the fourth season “Master of Puppets” groups Metallica. Eddie Munson (in this role JosephQuinn) performs it to support his companions during the fight against the demon Vecna.
The series’ Eddie, a fan of heavy metal and Metallica in particular, leads The Hellfire Club – a group of players in “Dungeons & Dragons” of Hawkins, which also includes Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin).
In the version of “Master Of Puppets” used in the series, he recorded an additional guitar part Tye Trujillothe then 17-year-old son Robert Trujillothe current bassist Metallica (he has been playing in the band since 2003). The young musician already has quite a lot of experience – when he was only 12, he supported the group at concerts Korn. He is also a bass player in bands OTTTO and Feed The Beast, and from 2021, he plays in crossover-thrash metal Suicidal Tendenciesthe band in which Robert Trujillo played in the years 1989-1995.
Joseph Quinn also had the opportunity to personally meet Metallica musicians, he was invited to jam together backstage at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, and Robert Trujillo gave him a BC Rich guitar – the instrument Eddie Munson played on in “Stranger Things”. The musicians decorated the “oar” with their autographs, and the drummer Lars Ulrich announced that Metallica will now consist of five members.
“Stranger Things” returns. Deep Purple and Queen in season five
We add to the list two rock classics that appeared in the trailers for the fifth season of “Stranger Things”. We can assume that these recordings – they were not in the first four episodes, but “Running Up That Hill” returns – will also be of great importance to the entire action. I’m talking about “Child in Time” groups Deep Purple in a new arrangement and ballad “Who Wants To Live Forever” from the repertoire Queen.
The first recording was used in the teaser, which had over 13 million views within 24 hours of its premiere. Deep Purple itself called the new arrangement “truly epic” because the combination with shots from the series had fans on the edge of their seats.
The original comes from the album “Deep Purple in Rock” from 1970. It was the debut of the Mark II lineup, considered by many fans as the best in the rich history of the rock legend. They were creating it Ian Gillan (vocal), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Roger Glover (bass), Jon Lord (Hammond organ) i Ian Paice (drums). To this day, Gillan, Glover and Paice remain members of this hard rock legend.
On the other hand “Who Wants To Live Forever”a number written by the guitarist Queen Brian Mayoriginally comes from the album “A Kind of Magic” (1986). In the studio version, Brian May begins the vocal part and then enters Freddy Mercury. The guitarist also sang the first chorus and the verse “But touch my tears with your lips” and the ending “Who waits forever anyway?”.
There was also a version in which all the vocal parts were performed by Freddie Mercury. She appeared in the movie “Immortal” (“Highlander”), in which he played the main role Christopher Lambert. Brian May wrote this song while sitting in the back seat of his car, after watching a 20-minute scene of the death of the main character’s wife (she was played by Beatie Edney).
In the recording, she supported the band National Philharmonic Orchestrawhich he conducted Michael Kamenauthor of music for the film “Immortal”.
“Who Wants To Live Forever” is still one of Queen’s greatest timeless hits. In 2005, in the Music Choice listeners’ ranking, the song was ranked 5th on the list of songs that the British would like to hear at their funeral.
