“Shogun” is a production that takes viewers to Japan at the turn of the century, then on the brink of civil war. The main character is Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), who must fight for his life when his enemies from the Council of Regents unite against him. He is helped by John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), an English navigator for whom Torangi’s victory will have personal benefits.
The series is a huge production undertaking. Care was taken to present feudal Japan as best as possible – the cinematography, set design, costumes and action scenes are stunning.
Within a short time after its premiere, the series received great reviews from both viewers and critics, and some fans began to ask about a possible continuation of the characters’ adventures. Despite the fact that “Shogun”, which is a film adaptation of the novel, is a limited production.
In an interview with The Direct, Justin Marks, the showrunner of the series, stated that the creators made it to the end of the story and its exact ending. Marks is pleased with the result and hopes that viewers will see the beauty of the ambiguity of the ending of the story. However, he does not rule out that, based on the series’ popularity, other productions depicting the history of Japan will be created.
The series “Shogun” based on the novel by James Clavell premieres in Poland on the Disney+ platform on February 27. Two episodes will then be made available. Next every week. The cast of the series included, among others: Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai.
