The latest series based on Stephen King’s prose has already debuted on the HBO Max platform. The production will ultimately consist of nine episodes, and the first two are already available.
“It: Welcome to Derry” is a prequel to the beloved film “It”. The series expands the universe from the cult book by the master of horror. The new HBO Original series was created by Andy and Barbara Muschietti (“It”, “This: Chapter 2“) and Jason Fuchs (“It: Chapter 2”, “Wonder Woman”, “Argylle”).
The cast includes: Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso and Bill Skarsgård.
The action of “Welcome to Derry” takes place in the titular town in 1962. It tells the story that led to the events known from the films “It” and “It: Chapter 2”. The atmosphere of the production is dark and very dense. There is no shortage of disturbing scenes that can really stick in viewers’ minds.
Stephen King has already watched some of the episodes. After watching the first one, he wrote:
“‘Welcome to Derry’ is amazing. The first episode is terrifying.”
And how does he like the story unfolding? In an interview with The New York Post he said:
“I really like the series ‘Welcome to Derry’. There’s a lot of horror and surreal visuals. I remember the fear of the supermarket, including jars of pickled cucumbers.”
The author referred here to the scene from the second episode in which one of the young heroines – Lilly, goes shopping to the supermarket. While searching for products, the scenery begins to change and becomes more and more disturbing. At one point, he notices parts of the body of his father, who died in tragic circumstances in a factory producing cucumbers in jars.
The situation becomes dangerous when the jars fall and the body fragments create a monster that attacks the girl. The scene is terrifying, and we still haven’t seen Pennywise himself, but it’s certainly something to look forward to!
“When Pennywise finally shows up, he’s still scary as hell,” King added.
