From the information revealed so far, we learn that during development “Liturgy Of Death” by Necrobutcher (bass), Hellhammer (drums), from Hungary Attila Csihar (vocal), Teloch (guitar) and British Ghoul (guitar) have never worked so closely together before. On his seventh LP Mayhem is therefore by no means a group resting on its laurels, drawing satisfaction from its own heritage, but an entity determined to push the boundaries of extremes.
– Everyone is motivated, we are in good health, we are ready and we are hungry – he said Necrobutcher in conversation with Tymoteusz Hołysz from the Interia Muzyka website.
“Liturgy of Death” by Mayhem. What do we already know about the new album of the black metal legend?
“On the new work ‘Liturgy Of Death’, Mayhem confirms their status as the most uncompromising force in Norwegian black metal. After four decades of pushing boundaries, the band has reached a new peak: it is faster, heavier and darker than anything from their previous achievements. This album turns into an absolute meditation on death in all its varieties – existential, spiritual and inevitable, where each track draws the listener into a ritual of suffering and transcendence, combining brutality with the terrifying atmosphere. On ‘Liturgy Of Death’ Mayhem focuses on the death that affects everyone, taking a raw and merciless look at concepts such as the fear of dying, loss, powerlessness and fragility of existence,” we read on the official website of the Norwegian black metal giants on social media.
“The result of all this is an album – dark, fast-paced and ruthless – that shows the most dangerous, elemental and fundamental face of Mayhem. 40 years after its creation, Mayhem is still the embodiment of chaos and proves once again that Norwegian black metal is a force that knows no limits,” it added.
The successor of the album “Daemon” (2019) was produced by the band in cooperation with who was also responsible for the mix Tore Stjernaowner of the renowned Stockholm Necromorbus Studioand also a drummer known for, among others, Funeral Mist, Ofermod, Corpus Christii Whether In Aeternum. He took care of mastering Thomas Johansson. Both Swedish specialists had already worked on the sound of the Norwegians’ recordings. The same can be said about the Italian artist Daniele Valerianiwhose work graces several previous Mayhem materials.
The guest appearance on the song is quite a surprise “Ephemeral Eternity” by Kristoffer Ryggi.e. popular Garmavocalist and leader of the Norwegian group Ulver and former frontman Arcturus and Borknagar.
The first longplay by the canon creators in seven years “De Mysteriis House Sathanas” from over 40 years ago is piloted by the just-published single “Weep For Nothing”.
