“Squid Game” follows the story of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) as he faces overwhelming problems. A man falling into increasing debts is unable to take care of his sick mother or support his daughter, who after the divorce moved in with his ex-wife. He happily accepts the offer to join the competition with billions of won at stake. After the end of the second season and the incredible cliffhanger, it is worth recalling that the second and third seasons were shot simultaneously.
There is still some time left until the series finale premieres, but fans are already creating surprising theories. What appeared on the Internet and how much does it have to do with the upcoming episodes?
A truly crazy theory has appeared in fans’ minds: will Gi-hun become the new leader? Screen Rant mentioned this idea in posts from 2021.
In season 2, we observe Gi-hun’s struggle not only with the brutal rules of the games, but also with another participant – 001, who runs his own private game. His private mission was to get closer to the main character and manipulate the gameplay.
Gi-hun can be criticized for many things: he is not afraid of sacrificing other players, but everything changes when his friend, Jung-bae, dies. Will this moment be so surprising and climactic in the biography of the beloved main character that he will move to the side of the “bad guys”? His heroic endeavors in Season 2 came to naught, and perhaps now his frustration will push him to lead this cruel game.
What would his new role be? Many of the Leader’s tasks are still shrouded in mystery, but there is no doubt that this would be quite an interesting take on the game.
Third season “Squid Game” will debut on Netflix in 2025.
