Brazilian filmmakers made a timeless work based on the 19th-century novel by Bernardo Guimaraes.
The title character is a young, beautiful slave with light skin. He works for the estate of the wealthy Almeida family, owners of a cotton plantation. He is lucky that he does not do hard work in the field, but helps at home, and the planter’s wife, in the absence of her son, treats Isaura as her own daughter. Thanks to Mistress Ester, the slave boasts a good education, knows foreign languages, sings well, can dance and play the piano. The girl wears beautiful and elegant dresses, leading a life different from that typical for women of her condition.
Everything changes when the heir Leoncio returns to the family estate, falls in love with Isaura and tries to seduce her by all means. However, the girl reciprocates the feelings of another young man – Tobias, the heir from the neighboring plantation, who wants to buy Isaura and then marry her. Leoncio does not agree to such a plan, and it turns the heroine’s life into a series of torments….
The series was shown in 130 countries around the world. She played the role of Isaura Lucelia Santosthe character of Leoncio was created Rubens de Falco.
Series “Slave Isaura” returned to TVP Kultura on February 17. Premieres on Saturdays at 8.40, replays on Sundays at 17.30. Two episodes of the series will be broadcast each time.
