Information about Pinal’s death was announced by Mexico’s Minister of Culture. “She took part in over 60 films and plays. Her legacy is the foundation of Mexican cinema, theater and television. May she rest in peace,” reads a statement posted on the X platform.
Pinal was born on September 12, 1931. She made her debut in 1949 in the comedy “Dos pesos la dejada”. For her role in “The Backwater Seeking Heaven” from 1952, she received an Ariel Award, the Mexican equivalent of an Oscar.
The actress also appeared in American and European cinema. She gained recognition for her participation in Luis Buñuel’s trilogy from 1961-1965, which included “Viridiana”, “The Exterminating Angel” and “Simon the Hermit”. She also appeared in Samuel Fuller’s “The Man Eater” from 1969.
Pinal last appeared on the big screen in 2013. Her television career culminated with a 2020 appearance.
Many people associated with Mexican culture said goodbye to the deceased artist. Her daughter, actress Sylvia Pasquel, wrote: “I will never come to terms with your departure, but the memory of you will always push me forward and as long as you live in my heart, you will be with me. I will always love you, mom.”
Singer Lucero also posted a farewell on social media. “My beloved and admired Silvia Pinal. I have the impression that you will always be with your fans who have admired you for as long as I can remember. You are one of the actresses of my life. I feel that only recently I shared the stage with you and learned everything from you I could. (…) Thank you for every hug, every conversation, every moment together.
In turn, Chantal Andere wrote on her Instagram account: “Today we said goodbye to a star, a diva and a great actress. For me and my family, a friend also passed away. A woman who gave us only joy, love and endless laughter.”
