Nemo creates, feels, loves and never stops dreaming. “We just want to be free” (INTERVIEW)

Bartłomiej Warowny, Interia Music: Hey Nemo! How do you feel in Poland?

Nemo: I feel great here! I love Poland, I love Warsaw – although my team and I haven’t visited other Polish cities yet, but we can’t wait. In Warsaw I was charmed by the combination of many charming things that remind me of Berlin, where I have been living for four years. When I walk around Warsaw, I see architectural similarities to Berlin that are breathtaking. However, Warsaw has its own character and distinct beauty, which is wonderful. I feel at home here.

You have many loyal fans here!

It’s an honor for me. We are very grateful for Polish fans. I receive a lot of warm and kind messages from them. I thank them for their support and for being with me every step of my journey. You can count on me and I can’t wait to return to Poland and play a great concert here. I promise that it will be a safe place where everyone can feel like themselves. It is important to create a space during the show where each individual can feel their individuality, but also the strength of the community. We are very excited! I love being here, so I will definitely come back. The people we have met here so far are incredibly nice, wonderful, and have big hearts. We would like to meet more Polish fans.

And so it will happen! Previously, Eurovision success with “The Code“, now for the next chapter. Congratulations on your new musical adventure – I mean the fresh song “Eurostar”. For me, this song is a manifesto of freedom and the pursuit of dreams. What does it mean to you?

It’s touching what you say! I’m glad that the song “Eurostar” has so many interpretations. Each of them touches me. I feel like the song represents the urgent need to be free and move in a calm, free world. The desire to feel free is inevitable. We just want to be free! Song “Eurostar” is like a sudden desire to buy a train ticket to London and go on a fun journey. The song also talks about the process that you have to go through to gain this freedom.

Sometimes this process is tedious…

Sometimes it is! Even more so when we talk about the joy of being a queer person, which I have experienced continuously since my performance at the Eurovision Song Contest. “Eurostar” is also a love letter to London, where I have been living for several months. I think this piece would not have been created without the aura of London.

I love London! I saw the musical “Wicked” there once and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Oh, that’s wonderful! Have you seen the film adaptation with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo?

Yes! Something amazing! Do you like musicals?

I love… Ariana Grande in “Wicked” as Glinda is wonderful, beautiful and sweet. And her voice? I have no words. I love her. I once tried to sing “Defying Gravity” and realized that it wasn’t a joke. Melismata are difficult, but at the same time so warm and free. Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in Broadway’s “Wicked” are legends. The music in the show is magical, even cosmic! Ari and Cynthia, who plays Elphaba, are invaluable in these roles. Perfectly selected casting. And the fact that playing the role of Glinda was Ariana’s biggest dream? I’m about to cry!

Me too! I didn’t think we would cry during our conversation…

Me neither… But it’s very nice! Do you know the song by Ariana and the British singer MIKA? It reminds me of Broadway’s “Popular”!

Yes! Their song comes from 2013 and is called “Popular Song”. They just wanted to take a cut of the achievements of “Wicked” and they did it ridiculously. Cool number! It comes from Ariana’s debut album, titled “Yours Truly”.

Oh boy! So I’m talking to an advanced Ariana fan… great! I’m very happy that this movie is now in theaters.

Ariana has already fulfilled her dream, what is yours now? What is your personal “Wicked”?

My biggest dream now is to release the entire album. This is my plan for the next few months. For the first time in a long time, I will soon have two months free from professional activities. Then I will focus on working on the album and make myself proud of it. In January and February I hide in the studio and do nothing except new music. The recording studio is my happy place. I’ll feel like I’m on vacation there, even though I’ll actually be at work. But music is not a job for me. I love creating. I’m going on tour in Europe next year and I think my dream, similar to “Wicked”, is to make my own film. We would like to one day direct a full-length film, make music for it and take care of the entire preparatory process. Maybe when I turn forty this dream will come true! I will strive for this. Ari also worked hard to achieve this and she succeeded.

I’ll be in the front row!

I stand by my word! Or creating a musical from scratch, that must be a wonderful feeling! I’ll think about it and let you know. The music that will accompany the neighboring project will certainly be in the foreground. We would also like to focus on “performance art” in my performances, so I have many ideas.

And how did you come up with the idea of inviting Luna, our Polish star, to the “Eurostar” video?

I love Luna. She is very funny and makes me laugh every time, I love being with her. She is always herself and doesn’t pretend to be anyone – she’s a real go-getter and I had a great time working with her. I have great memories of our conversations, chats and gossip. The way Luna thinks and defines the world totally resonates with me. I feel like he just understands me! She has a sensitive, artistic soul and I appreciate that about her. It was a lot of fun on the set of the music video!

You keep saying that Luna is funny. That’s interesting, I haven’t talked to her yet, so I’ll check it out!

All right! Do you sometimes judge people for being funny and funny?

At times yes! I can tell you that you are really funny! And you like Ariana Grande, so I give you a big plus.

Thanks! Now you make me laugh until I cry! Luna is a superstar and I wish her all the best.

Your energy on stage is incredible every time. Do you like to convey it to your fans during live performances?

Yes! Being an artist means that you have to pass the energy on, you can’t bottle it up. This comes easily to me, for which I am grateful. Performing on stage comes naturally to me and always has. I don’t know exactly why, but I feel as comfortable on stage as I do now talking to you. I’m obviously a slightly different person then, because I’m in the frenzy of performing, but I don’t think I’m shyx. When I stand on stage, nothing else around me matters. I know what I have to do and I do it. In the future, I want to implement more choreography in my performances. It’s a challenge, but also a dream, another one like “Wicked”.
