Netflix streaming platform has just revealed what Polish films and series are currently being produced. By the end of the year, viewers will see nine more Polish Netflix original titles. Among them is the series “Project UFO”. The director and author of the script is Kasper Bajon.
“Imagine that you wake up, turn on the TV, and everywhere there is information that a UFO has appeared in Poland. And how? Would you believe it? Probably not entirely” – announces Piotr Adamczyk in the produced material on the set of the series “Project UFO”.
The first photos of the series' characters appeared on the official Netflix profile on Facebook. The main roles in “Project UFO” are played by: Piotr Adamczyk, Mateusz Kościukiewicz, Maja Ostaszewska and Julia Kijowska.
What will the Netflix production be about? This is a series inspired by real events.
In the early 1980s, after an alleged UFO landing in Truskasy, Warmia, two men – a failing TV star and an extraterrestrial enthusiast – embark on an intellectual mission to determine the origins of alien beings while engaging everyone in their orbit in the discussion. While the two heroes try to convince the world of their theories, a powerful politician tries to use paranormal phenomena to take over the country.
“The story about the arrival of UFOs in Poland is an original idea in itself, but with our series we want to fit into the narratives about aliens and their invasions known from pop culture. We add a Polish accent to it, playing with patterns and drawing from well-known films and books,” he emphasizes. Kasper Bajon, director and screenwriter of the series “Projekt UFO”.
“Project UFO” is his directorial debut recognized author of scripts for such famous productions as the series “Rojst”, “Wielka Woda”, “Open Your Eyes” and “Heweliusz”, which is currently in production.
“Our series talks about the longing for mystery and discovering the truth. It is also a story about loneliness – not only here on earth, but also in the universe. Younger viewers in the series can see a story about fake news and how quickly, like a virus, they spread and appropriate the truth. We want this story to stimulate reflection, asking viewers many important questions,” emphasizes Anna Kępińska (“Wielka Woda”, “Heweliusz”), the producer of the series.
The premiere is planned for autumn 2024.
