As we have already informed, the simply titled album will be released on January 23, 2026 “Megadeth” – this will be the farewell release of the thrash metal legend.
We’ve already heard the first single “Tipping Point” – the concert premiere of this piece took place on October 14 at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam (Netherlands). Four days earlier Megadeth appeared as a special guest Distrubed at their concert at Tauron Arena Kraków.
“We all have our different ‘tipping points’ which can change from day to day. I have the impression that we are all being pushed to the edge today, so it’s easy to give in to this emotion. However, it’s important not to let yourself be broken” – this is what the 64-year-old said about the new single Dave Mustaine.
A music video directed by the director was shot for the premiere composition Leonardo Liberti. In the music video, Dave Mustaine, who plays the prisoner, features the three other members of the current Megadeth lineup, i.e. the New York bassist James LomenzoBelgian drummer Dirk Verbeuren and Teemu Mäntysaari – a Finnish guitarist who joined the band in 2023, replacing the Brazilian Kiko Loureiro.
He started producing the “Megadeth” longplay again Chris Rakestrawan American specialist who supervised the sound of the two previous albums of Dave Mustaine’s band: “Dystopia” (2016) i “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” (2022).
Megadeth remakes a Metallica classic
Now the thrash metal legend has revealed the detailed tracklist of his upcoming album. The whole thing will close with a bonus track with a well-known title. I’m talking about “Ride The Lightning”a classic from another legend of this genre – Metallica.
Let us recall that Dave Mustaine was the guitarist of this band in 1981-1983. On the debut album “Kill ‘Em All” (1983) included four songs co-written by Mustaine: “The Four Horsemen”, “Jump in the Fire”, “Phantom Lord” and “Metal Militia”. He also co-wrote two issues that were published on “Ride the Lightning”the next Metallica album: “The Call of Ktulu” and title “Ride the Lightning”. This album was released in July 1984, well over a year after the recalcitrant Mustaine was fired from Metallica due to his problems with alcohol and substance abuse and “aggressive behavior” towards the band’s leaders: the singer and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich.
“With Megadeth ending and my career coming full circle, I decided to put ‘Ride The Lightning’ on the album. It’s a song I wrote together with James, Lars and Cliff (BurtonMetallica bassist) and his presence on the new album is an expression of respect for the place and time where my career began,” Dave Mustaine now emphasizes.
“I thought it would be nice to close the circle to show respect by recording the songs I wrote with Metallica and honor our friendship, even though it has been strained and ruined by emotions over the years when we weren’t necessarily friendly. But I’ve always had a huge respect for James’ guitar playing and Lars’ music writing. So it was cool to do that and add it to the record. We sped it up a bit and experimented a bit with a solo with me and Teemu We’re dueling a little bit, so you can hear some slight differences in tempo, and of course I sing differently than James. But once again, it was about closing the circle and showing what James and I, as guitarists, have done to change the world,” added Dave Mustaine in a video posted on social media.
Let us add that Megadeth will be one of the headliners of next year’s edition Mystic Festival in Gdańsk.
