Maurizio Pollini is dead. His career began with a triumph in Warsaw

Maurizio Pollini was born in Milan in 1942 and graduated from the conservatory there.

He caused admiration at the Chopin competition in Warsaw. Italian media reminds that Arthur Rubinsteinwho was one of the competition jurors, said then: “This young man plays technically better than all of us.”

In the 1960s, Pollini interrupted his concert activities due to illness; he resumed it in 1966, giving recitals all over the world. He was also involved in conducting. Recently, the pianist was ill and therefore canceled the announced concerts.

The coffin with the artist's body will be displayed at the La Scala theater in Milan, with which he was very closely associated. Pollini made his debut there and his last concert took place there in February 2023.

In 2007, he was awarded a Grammy for recording Chopin's nocturnes.
