“It’s rare to have such a feeling that this particular role is for you. With “The Quack”, I knew I was going for it. I had this bargaining chip that my name was the same as the character I was playing. Who else but Marysia could play it? Marysia. I found out that I got this role when I was in Dubai. I had a very big problem with my internet connection and I wasn’t even able to reply to my agent. But I remember that an emotional hurricane broke out inside me. Will 2024 be the year of Maria Kowalska? This time viewers will be able to admire her acting skills in the TVP news – “Matilda“. In the series, taking place in 1878 in the Lublin region, we meet teenage Matylda Bilińska, a student at a Lublin school. Her rebellious nature, manifested by using the Polish language, reading banned literature and participating in conspiratorial women’s meetings, gets her into serious trouble. The owner of the boarding house, Madame Kretochkin, plans to hand over the untamed girl to the police. Matylda decides to escape and seeks refuge in Brzezino. She assumes that the property of her deceased relatives’ friends is located there. However, it turns out that her father, Tadeusz Biliński, is still alive, working in quarries in Siberia.

Maria Kowalska played the title role of a rebellious student. “Matylda has a lot of Maria. I must say that Marysia gave this character a shape that was included in the script, but largely reflects her soul and emotions,” said director Krzysztof Lang. “What was a bond for me, and at the same time a portal, was a lot of stubbornness between me and Matylda. I have a lot of it in myself, that’s probably why I’m an actress,” she said in an interview with AKPA.

The new Polish series “Matylda” debuted on the TVP VOD platform some time ago, meeting with positive reception from viewers. However, the television premiere will take place on Sunday, March 10. The first episode of “Matylda” will be available on TVP1 at 8:20 p.m. Viewers will watch a replay of this episode on Friday, March 15 at 11:25 p.m. on TVP1.
