Wanting to start over after the end of a long relationship, auto mechanic Dave Kroupa did what most people do in a similar situation – he set up an account on a dating site. He bonded with Liz Golyar and Cari Farver, single mothers with charming personalities who, in their own ways, helped him open up to the world again. It might seem that this hard-working and devoted father had just gained a new chance for a casual romance, but over time the situation began to turn into a complicated love triangle, putting Dave and his loved ones in danger.
This documentary from Curious Films (“Living on the Edge”), directed by Sam Hobkinson (“City of Fear: New York vs. people involved in the case – including the law enforcement officers who solved it.
We will see evocative reconstructions illustrating the sense of tension and paranoia that accompanied Dave during those nightmarish four years.
“We enter the world of the story with Dave’s perspective’a, who was caught in a web of lies,” says director Sam Hobkinson. “I wanted the narrative to reflect not only the protagonist’s confusion, but also the state of complete surprise when he realizes what actually happened,” adds the creator of “The Lover.” stalker, killer.
“(This story) is a real gift for a director. Especially if you’re interested in creating a story that deals with deception and identity,” Hobkinson admits he couldn’t have dreamed of a better story to bring to the screen.
