According to Variety, “Joker: Folie à Deux” cost $200 million. This is more than three times as much as first partwhose production cost “only” 60 million.
Phoenix He received $20 million to reprise his role as Arthur Fleck. His partner, Lady Gaga, raised PLN 12 million. For comparison, the actor received 6.5 million for his participation in the first part.
The investment of such a huge amount in an R-rated film may be surprising. However, it should be recalled that the first “Joker” was an incredible artistic and box office success. The film grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. He also received the Golden Lion in Venice and 11 Oscar nominations. Ultimately, he won in two categories – for his role as Phoenix and for his music.
The second part of the film inspired by the story of Batman’s nemesis will tell the story of Arthur Fleck’s (Phoenix) relationship with Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga). The psychologist, under the influence of the criminal, will lose herself in madness and join him as Harley Quinn. The film is not related to other DC comic book adaptations.
“Folie à deux” is billed as a musical. The film also starred Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Jacob Lofland and Catherine Keener. Todd Phillips is back behind the camera.
Filming ended in April 2023. The cinema premiere is scheduled for October 4, 2024. It is possible that the film will debut earlier during one of the prestigious festivals, e.g. in Venice or Toronto.
