John Lowe is dead. The Quarrymen member was 81 years old

John “Duff” Lowe has died. In February 1958, the musician joined the school group The Quarrymenin which they appeared Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrisonand was its member for two years.

Together with Colin Hanton and later members of The Beatles, he took part in the recording of the first two singles ever recorded by the band from Liverpool – “That’ll Be The Day” and “In Spite of All The Danger” (from 1958). They saw the light of day only thanks to the collection “Anthology” (1995). According to Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn, it was thanks to Lowe that the recording survived – in 1981, Lowe sold it to McCartney, who later published it on a special album summarizing the Beatles’ career.
