The Oscars have changed their form significantly over the years. The gala in its current format was hosted for the last two editions by Jimmy Kimmel, 56-year-old American television presenter, actor, comedian, screenwriter and producer. He hosts his own talk show – “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, on the same ABC station that broadcasts the film awards.
The well-known American television personality previously hosted the gala in 2017 and 2018. ABC, now owned by The Walt Disney Company, probably assumed from the outset that Kimmel would reprise his role as presenter. But not this time! Jimmy resigns from hosting next edition of Oscars, Apparently he made the decision before the summer break of his show.
John Mulaney also joins the group of people resigning from hosting the event for ABC. American comedian, actor, writer, and producer. He also will not host the event scheduled for March 2, 2025.
ABC will have to scramble to find an Oscars host after Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney both dropped out. Deadline reports that Mulaney was waiting for Kimmel to make his decision official before making his own.
Mulaney returns after John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In L.A., which was critically acclaimed for its chaotic take on the late-night show. He also has several other projects in the works, including stand-up comedy.
What’s more, The Walt Disney Company is still looking for a presenter for another famous television awards show – the Emmys, which Jimmy Kimmel himself has hosted three times. Organizers have to hurry, because the event will be broadcast on September 15.
