In an interview with Empire magazine Cameron he revealed that he has a distance to “Terminator”“I don’t consider this film to be the Holy Grail, I can say that for sure,” said the winner of three Oscars for “Titanic.” “When I watch it now, some elements seem embarrassing to me, others satisfactory, considering the limited resources we had.”
Cameron revealed that he has no problem with the dialogue in “Terminator.” “It doesn’t embarrass me. Apparently I have a higher tolerance for my dialogue than a lot of other people,” he joked. “You know what? Show me your three of the four highest-grossing films in the history of cinema. Then we’ll talk about the quality of the dialogue.”
“I was a complete greenhorn when I directed ‘The Terminator.’ I was about 29 at the time, and it was my first solo film. (…) That’s why it’s close to my heart,” Cameron concluded. He insists that ‘The Terminator’ is his debut, although he directed ‘Piranha 2: The Flying Killers’ in 1982. However, the film was taken away from him by the producers and edited without his involvement.
The Terminator was a huge success. It not only launched Cameron’s career, but also established Arnold Schwarzenegger as an action star.
