Jadwiga Barańska left October 24, 2024. Her husband buried her at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles, but before the funeral he announced that on October 21, 2025, i.e. on the 90th birthday of the actress, a second ceremony in Powązki in Warsaw would be held.
“I want to bring the ashes of Jadzia to the country to rest in a country that is her and my homeland forever,” wrote Jerzy Antczak.
Jadwiga Barańska never concealed that when in the late 1970s her husband offered her moving overseas, she agreed to fly to the States without hesitation.
“I just passed forty and felt that I had a debt to pay back to my loved ones. Before, they were doing everything so that I would not leave the stage. I wasn’t at home for two years, because I was filming. My son did not have a mother next to him.
The actress in almost every interview emphasized that although she lives in America, she does not feel at home there. She visited Poland regularly.
“I come here as if I didn’t leave at all. I’m at home here, I still pay taxes here. Life in America is like living on another planet,” Kultura confessed on TVP.
“As long as my friends live here, I will come back,” she added.
The role of Barbara Niechcic in the Oscar -nominated “Nights and Days” – asked why she gave up her acting career and flew with her husband to the States – she always explained that her career was not the most important for her.
“I focused on my family and I didn’t regret it for a moment,” she said in an interview already cited.
During one of her last visits to her homeland, she admitted that her biggest dream is to spend autumn in Poland and here … to make a life. Jerzy Antczak confirmed that his wife urges him to return to “old rubbish”.
“We both miss Poland very much,” he said, hosting Kultura in the TVP studio.
The actress was well aware of the fact that her life was coming to an end.
“I am not registered in the world permanently. This is the law of nature that we are born, live, die, and others come after us” – she confessed in an interview with “Sunday”.
Jerzy Antczak recently confirmed in an interview with “Your Styl” that he intends to fulfill the last will of his beloved wife. He announced that he would fly to Poland only once – that – this is his words – “give the ashes of Jadzia’s native land”.
“My next trip to the country will be just a one way trip. I can say that I am already on suitcases … but I’m not afraid of it because I will meet with Jadzia,” he said.
In the last trip to Poland, the director will be accompanied by the son he had with Jadwiga. Mikołaj was an apple in his mother’s head, she called him his greatest success.
“We want the funeral in Poland to take place on October 21, 2025, on Jadzia’s birthday. Please, send me a good vibration to survive until that day” – he wrote recently on social media.
Today it is already known that the urn with the ashes of Jadwiga Barańska will be laid in a columbarium in Warsaw Powązki. The exact date of the second funeral of the “Night and Days” star is not yet known.
