It is the only underground waterfall in Poland. You will find it in Lower Silesia

There are few people who are not impressed by waterfalls. Hectoliters of water falling from a height and splashing spectacularly at the foot of the waterfall usually look very picturesque. However, they arouse respect due to their height, others are impressive due to their width, others are more impressive due to the speed at which the water rushes. In Poland, to see the waterfall, we have to go to the Tatra Mountains or the Karkonosze Mountains. .

An unusual waterfall can be found in a former gold mine in Złoty Stok. To admire it, we have to descend 23 meters below the ground surface. . In the now closed Black Adit, water falls from a height of eight meters, which we can see after climbing seven floors of metal stairs and walking through corridors carved in the rock. It is certainly an unusual experience to first hear the sound of water and then see it flowing from the height of a several-story building. For greater effect, the waterfall was illuminated with different colors, which gives the whole spectacle a fairy-tale and, in a way, even less real character.

The Black Adit is part of the Gold Mining and Metallurgy Museum in Złoty Stok and can be visited all year round. In the winter season from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and in the summer season from April 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The price of a regular ticket is PLN 53 and a reduced ticket is PLN 43. We do not have to book places in advance – but it is worth remembering that the mine can only be visited with a guide. Depending on the route and selected attractions, the tour may take from 1 to 3.5 hours. When going to the mine, remember to take warmer clothes with you – the temperature underground is about 7 – 10 degrees Celsius.

As part of the ticket, visitors will also see a half-kilometer section of the Gertruda adit, where it is said that her ghost can be encountered. An interesting attraction is also the walkway where executions were carried out on miners who decided to steal gold. They were filled with mortar up to their elbows in specially drilled holes and left to die.

The sightseeing program also includes a ride on the “Orange Railway” – it is definitely an interesting experience when we move along tunnels carved in the rock on tracks like a tram.

One of the options available to tourists is to use a means of transport that is unusual for the underground world, i.e. a boat. An underground boat trip is not part of the basic offer, but lovers of unconventional tourist solutions will probably be happy to take advantage of this opportunity.

The Gold Mining and Metallurgy Museum in Złoty Stok also offers a number of attractions that will appeal to both small and large adventure seekers. The offer of the former mine includes, among others: gold panning, casting of bars, minting coins and exploration in the diamond field.

The former gold mine in Złoty Stok is definitely an attraction that should be added to the list of places worth seeing. When going to these areas, it is also worth visiting Lądek-Zdrój or taking advantage of a number of attractions that the charming – but still not appreciated enough in Poland – Kłodzko Valley can offer tourists.
