Deadline Highlights Suggestion for ‘I Am Legend’ Sequel Director has not been officially confirmed by either party. No one has signed any binding contract either.
If it turns out that Steven Caple Jr. (“Creed 2”, “The Land”), a potential sequel to “The Beast Awakens” will be in question.
The script will be written by the co-author of the first part of the film, Akiva Goldsman.
The film “I Am Legend” was based on the 1954 novel by Richard Matheson. Smith played the role of a U.S. Army virologist, Robert Neville, who is the last living man in New York. Trying to develop a cure for the virus, his only companion is his dog Sam (Abbey). After the appearance of a devastating virus that wipes out most of the population and contributes to the creation of mutants, the man tries to find a way to reverse the process of transformation.
The project will be overseen by Will Smith, who will return to his role after many years, and Michael B. Jordan. At the moment, it is not known who Jordan would play.
“We’re still working on the script and tweaking it to our liking. There’s no release date or anything. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to shoot the movie, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him (Smith),” Michael B. Jordan told People magazine.
“The opportunity to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really thrilled,” he added at the end.
