“How I Met Your Mother” is American sitcom that debuted on CBS on September 19, 2005. The series quickly gained popularity, gaining legions of fans around the world for its unique storytelling style and humor. The show ran for nine seasons, ending on March 31, 2014 after airing 208 episodes. The series was created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, who based it partly on their own life experiences.
The plot of the series centers around Ted Mosby’ego who tells his children in 2030 how he met their mother. The story takes us to the present day, where Ted and his group of friends – Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin – experience various adventures in New York. The series combines elements of comedy, romance and drama, which makes it attractive to both younger and older viewers.
The series stars Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, Jason Segel as Marshall Eriksen, Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky, Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson, and Alyson Hannigan as Lily Aldrin. All actors have received praise for their roles, and Neil Patrick Harris stood out in particular for his portrayal of the charismatic and funny Barney, which earned him numerous television award nominations.
Alyson Hannigan, known for her role as Lily Aldrin in the cult series “How I Met Your Mother”, expressed her desire to return to the world of this production through a new spin-off. The actress, who formed a harmonious on-screen pair with Jason Segel for nine seasons, suggests that the reboot could focus on the character of Marshall Eriksen, played by Segel. In a recent interview with People magazine, Hannigan revealed that she already has an idea for a new version of the series that could introduce a completely new way of telling the story.
“It’s something like: ‘No, no, no, no kids. That’s not how it happened'”, said the actress, suggesting that the new production could refresh the storyline in a fun and creative way. The idea would be for the characters to be “much older”, and then relive their adventures. Such a move could attract both old fans and new viewers.
After several years of trying to create a How I Met Your Mother spin-off, in 2022 Hulu has finally released the series “How I Met Your Father.” The main role in the production was played by Hilary Duff, who played the character of Sophie, a woman who tells her son the story of how she met his father. The action of the series takes place in the present day, but often refers to Sophie’s youth, when she experienced love and life adventures with a group of friends in New York.
Apart from Hilary Duff The cast includes Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Suraj Sharma, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, and Kim Cattrall as the older version of Sophie.
Even though the plot concept was similar to the original, “How I Met Your Father” did not gain as much sympathy from the audience as the original and the sequel was canceled after two seasons.
Alyson Hannigan admitted that she has not decided to watch a single episode so far this spin-off. Even the fact that her husband, Alexis Denisof, appeared in a cameo role as Sandy’The ego of Rivers, a character known from the original series, did not convince her to watch the show.
“I probably should have watched that episode,” Hannigan admitted, but added that she felt sad at the thought of returning to the familiar scenery, which made it difficult for her to watch the new show.
