“His three daughters” is a tense, moving and funny portrait of family relationships. It is a story about three sisters, whose paths diverged long ago, who meet in their dying father’s New York apartment and try to rebuild their broken bonds – we read in the Netflix description.
He is responsible for the script and direction. Azazel Jacobs (“Terri,” “Mama’s Boy”). During a panel at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the film had its world premiere last September, Jacobs explained his personal inspiration for writing the script. The story is a result of his own experiences and a reflection on the different ways people deal with the passing of loved ones – friends and family.
The film “His Three Daughters”, like other Netflix productions that debuted in cinemas earlier, may be one of the candidates for next year’s Oscars. Among the platform’s productions that were nominated in previous years were also, among others. “Marriage Story”, “Roma”, “Don’t Look Up”, “All Quiet on the Western Front”.
The title roles of the three daughters are played by: Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon.
Carrie Coon is an actress known to fans of series from phenomenal productions “Fargo” and “The Leftovers”. On the big screen we could see her in “Gone Girl” and the last two installments of “Ghostbusters”. Natasha Lyonne gained fame thanks to “Orange is the New Black”. She continues her good streak in the next acclaimed series – “Russian Doll” and “Poker Face”.
Elizabeth Olsen is the youngest of the Olsen sisters. So far, it is she who has the greatest film credits. Her filmography includes films such as “Red Lights”, “The Secret”, “Wind River: The Cursed Earth” and many productions from the Marvel comic book world. The actress played the role of Wanda Maximoff in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame”, “Doctor Strange in the Universe of Madness” and the series devoted to this character entitled “WandaVision”.
