Dex Romweber is dead. The guitarist was 57 years old

The death was announced on the musician’s website.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our friend – John Michael Romweber II – better known as Dexter – who died at his home on Friday, February 16. He was 57 years old and was found by his sister, Monica. He probably died of natural causes, but we are still waiting for the results of the autopsy,” we read.

Vocalist and guitarist Dex Romweber he was one of the most appreciated artists of the rock underground. He took his first steps in the band The Kamikazes, and gained the greatest recognition thanks to the Flat Duo Jets project, which he created together with Chris “Crow” Smith (then with Tony Mayer).

Despite their lack of commercial success, the group inspired artists such as: Cat Power, The White Stripes and Neko Case.

The group broke up in the late 1990s and Romweber moved on to other projects – The New Romans and Dex Romweber Duowhere he performed with his sister Sarah.

In total, the musician has released 13 albums in all his projects and solo. The last of them – “Good Thing Goin'” – was released in 2023.
