“Deeper”: Tom Cruise’s unique project. He hasn’t done anything like this before

Doug Liman shared information about “Deeper” with journalist Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 during a recent screening of the documentary “Gaucho Gaucho” in New York. The director admitted that he is very interested in making a “scary” film at this stage of his career. “I’ve never done anything like this. And neither has Tom Cruise,” said the director.

Although these reports suggest that “Deeper” may be Liman’s next project, it is still unclear whether this will actually happen. Sources confirmed to Deadline that work on the film is currently underway at Warner Bros.

“Deeper” will tell the story of an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while exploring space.

Interestingly, many Hollywood creators have been interested in this project for several years. In 2016, MGM studio bought the rights to the famous script by Max Landis, on which it is based.

Originally, the star of the production was supposed to be Bradley Cooper, and the camera was to be directed by Kornél Mundruczó. However, this did not come to fruition, as did the version prepared by Baltasar Kormákur with Idris Elba in the main role.

If work on “Deeper” finally begins this time, it will be Cruise and Liman’s third film together. We owe them the hit science fiction thriller “Edge of Tomorrow” and the action drama “Barry Seal: King of Smuggling.”

Their other high-profile project is also in development. We are talking about a production supported by NASA in cooperation with SpaceX, the photos for which would be taken in space.

Cruise is also preparing to star in the sequel to the cult 1990 film “Fast as Lightning.” He is also set to star in a new project by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Moreover, the premiere of the next installment of his cult “Mission: Impossible” series, subtitled “The Final Reckoning”, is scheduled for May next year.
