Once again, we are dealing with deep stories about love, which can be mean and perverse. Everything told in a pleasant storytelling way. It immediately reminds me of the album Khalid “Sincere“which described male-female relationships in a quite similar way, without unnecessary romanticization.
However, I have the impression that what characterizes Kushner are numerous references to prayer, sin, salvation, as well as relationships with God and Satan. Showing love through the prism of faith is not something often seen in pop, but here we deal with it in practically every song.
I mentioned monotony, which is definitely the biggest drawback of this album. We had a lot of new pop stars in 2024, such as “Radical Optimism” From Dua Linden trees, “eternal sunshine” by Ariana Grande or the already mentioned “Sincere” from Khalid, and in my opinion each of these albums simply offered much more musically.
Without a doubt, one of the first singles deserves recognition “Daylight”which was the most successful of the entire album. There is no denying that this is a brilliant song. However, I have the impression that when I listen to the entire album, some of the proposals are very similar to each other, based on the same patents, such as “No High”. I miss something fresh here, something that could make Kushner stand out.
I’m not surprised by the universal admiration for it “The Dichotomy”but personally I expected something different. Something that Kushner will be able to stand out among artists such as Hozier, Teddy Swims Whether Rag’n’bone Mancompared to which it currently compares quite palely. Despite everything, it is a solid album that makes up for a lot with its lyrical content.
