“Lady Love” is a social story with a criminal thread that will take viewers to the adult industry, full of temptations and threats, colorful with the neon lights of the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1980s, and to the awakening Poland of the last decade of the 20th century.
The script, inspired by true stories, tells the story of Lucyna Liss (Anna Szymańczyk), a young girl from a small town in the Polish People’s Republic who, dreaming of freedom and life on her own terms, fled abroad. In West Germany – the European dream factory of the 1980s – she quickly became a star of adult magazines and films under the pseudonym “Lucy Love”. The presented story tells about her path to success, but also about the high price she has to pay for it. Lucyna is not only a very successful star, but also a sensitive woman and mother who is persistently looking for true love.
Anna Szymańczyk took part in the BNP Paribas Warsaw SerialCon festival, during which the first two episodes of the production were pre-premiered. In an interview for Interia, she talked about her first thoughts after encountering the project. In the idea of Mikołaj Wit and Dariusz Goczal, she discovered an extraordinary, emotional and groundbreaking story that Polish viewers had never seen before.
“This is a wonderful individual story. A wonderful story of a woman at the turn of thirty years, unique, brave, brave and wonderful, who makes difficult decisions in life. She takes up challenges, will be held accountable for them and at times will be very happy. It is a series composed of many emotions.” – she said.
The actress who plays Lucyna Lis, the title star nicknamed “Lady Love”, also talked about her preparations to create such a multi-dimensional, intriguing and brave character:
“One basic thing – I want to understand people. I deeply believe that people are good by nature and that life sometimes puts them in such situations that make them behave strangely for some and not for others. He has to make difficult decisions. First of all, I approached it with my heart. I wanted to show a character, a person who is not just one-dimensional, not just a star of the adult film industry, but is also a mother, daughter, wife and has her own feelings and life. This was important to me. I think I had to use a lot of sensitivity to get into her skin, but that doesn’t mean that this character doesn’t annoy me at times. Of course, some of the decisions he makes are at odds with me privately. However, when I step into the shoes of Lucyna Lis, I try to understand her as best as I can and to justify why she did it.”
The actress appreciated her character’s determination and her fight for herself, despite constant obstacles and unkindness of the surroundings. Although at many moments the story presented in the plot is moving or terrifying, working on the series gave the creators a lot of pleasure and satisfaction.
“Even though this story is deeply touching and painful, it… we had a lot of fun filming this series. This style of dressing, these wigs that I have on my head – it was fun. Finding myself in this setting, being transported to strange worlds – it was absolutely fantastic,” she admitted.
Anna Szymańczyk believes that the description of the series and the subject matter will not scare away the audience. In her opinion, this is a production that can open Poles to honest and necessary conversations about corporeality and the intimate sphere of life:
“I hope that viewers will see this series. They will not stop only at the information that it is a story about the adult industry, but will try to watch it, because after the first episode they will realize that it is a multidimensional story.”
