From a Renaissance fortress to a romantic French residence
The castle in Gołuchów was built in 1560 at the request of Rafał Leszczyński, the staroste of Radziejów. When it came into the possession of his son, Wacław Leszczyński, another residential building connected by a wing was added, as well as an arcaded loggia and an impressive façade, creating a magnate residence.
A new era for the castle began when it was taken over by Jan Kanty Działyński and his wife. The new owner could not watch the residence fall into ruin. She decided not only to renovate and rebuild it, but also to create a museum in it. Over the course of several years, the castle has regained its former glory, and the interiors include richly decorated fireplaces and lintels.
Izabella and Jan Kanty did not have any children, and their arranged marriage could hardly be considered a success. The spouses disagreed on many issues, including political ones, but they were united by their love of art and collecting. and growing exotic plants.

Apparitions, strange noises and hidden treasure
Izabella Czartoryska died in 1899 in France, but at her request she was buried in a mausoleum located in the park next to the castle in Gołuchów. The exhibits were then destroyed or looted by the Nazis, and the castle itself began to deteriorate. Part of the saved collection returned from the Soviet Union only in 1956.

The castle in Gołuchów is a work of art in itself and it is worth seeing its impressive structure in person. Today it is located there and you can admire it in the restored chambers.
