In 2002, the film was released in cinemas “28 Days Later” Danny Boyle, who turned out to be a global phenomenon. It received great reviews and grossed over $84 million on a budget of just $8 million.
It was about a young boy who wakes up from a coma in a deserted hospital. Jim, played by this year’s Oscar winner Cillian Murphyquickly discovers that most of the city’s inhabitants have been infected with a dangerous virus that causes uncontrolled aggression in people.
Five years later, we watched the horror sequel titled “28 Weeks Later.” However, the film directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo did not repeat the success of the original.
Now Boyle has decided to return to the series, resulting in the production of “28 Years Later”. The script was written by Oscar nominee Alex Garland (“Ex Machina”).

We will see them in the main roles Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes. So far, it has been announced that Cillian Murphy will also take part in the production again. The man expressed his desire to play, but ultimately it would not happen. However, the actor will remain as executive producer.
“He’s not in the first movie, but I hope he’ll appear as Jim at some point in the future,” mentioned Andrew Macdonald, who also serves as producer. “28 Years Later” is to be the first part of a trilogy.
The film will hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
