“Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” will return. Which stars will appear in the sequel?

“I won't repeat myself, we'll start shooting in Australia and my God, it's going to be quite a journey,” said Stephan Elliott, the film's director, in an interview on the “Breaking Baz” podcast on Deadline. “The original cast is on board, we have a script that everyone likes, we're working on deals… It's happening.”

Elliott revealed that he had been planning to make a sequel to “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” for a long time. “I wasn't sure then, and I didn't want to repeat myself,” he said. “I was thinking, what am I going to do? Put my characters on a ferry or a train? I've been considering all these options over the years.”

Work on the script began five years ago, but Elliott became fully involved in it only after the death of his parents. “Dad died in early 2020. Then mom passed away in early 2023. It was a difficult time, and I finally realized I had something to write about.” He added that the son of one of the characters, who was seven years old in the original, will play an important role. In addition, the sequel will feature new characters and old disco hits.

“Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” debuted on May 15, 1994 as a midnight screening of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. Starring Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce. All three are expected to return in the sequel. The former, who will turn 86 in July, is said to be eager to work and insists that filming should begin as soon as possible.
