“MaXXXine”: Mia Goth returns in the trailer for the final part of the trilogy

Ti West's last two films, deftly crossing the border between horror, slasher and thriller, won the hearts of audiences around the world. The first part of this trilogy was a movie “X” With Mia Goth and Jenna Ortega starring. Shortly afterwards, unexpectedly for everyone, Goth returned with the second part of the series, the film “Pearl”, which takes place long before the events of “X”. Now this trilogy will end with a horror movie “MaXXXine”.

What distinguishes the trilogy created by Ti West is the fact that each part was shot in a style typical of the era in which the action takes place. The first film, “X”, was very reminiscent of productions in the style of the famous “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. “Pearl”, on the other hand, was shot in technicolor. This artistic procedure will be continued in “MaXXXine”. This horror film will be stylized as a micro-budget production intended for the VHS market.

The two previous films in the series have grossed a total of $25 million in theaters on a budget of only $2 million. The success of the series was undoubtedly helped by its high quality, but also by non-standard methods of promoting subsequent films. “You have to find a way to make your films feel like a big event. They don't have to cost $100 million to do that,” West explained his strategy in an interview.

The heroine of “MaXXXine” is a woman played by Mia Goth, who was the only survivor of the massacre that took place on the idyllic country estate in the movie “X”. She is an adult film actress who goes to Los Angeles to become a movie star. The third part of the series will be set after the events of the film “X”, in the 1980s.

The success of the films “X” and “Pearl” meant that the creators recruited many stars from the acting league to the cast of “MaXXXine”. The cast announced by A24 includes, among others: for Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”), Kevin Bacon (“Footloose”), Lily Collins (“Emily in Paris”), Michelle Monaghan (“Where Are You, Amanda?”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”) and Bobby Cannavale (“The Lineman”).

The long-awaited first trailer has appeared online. We learn from it that a character called “Night Stalker” is terrorizing Los Angeles. Will he catch the titular Maxine? We'll find out later this year.
