Cannes 2024: Magnus von Horn with a chance for the Palme d'Or

There were 19 films in the Main Competition of the 77th Cannes International Film Festival. The artists who will compete for the Palme d'Or include its former winners: Francis Ford Coppola with the long-awaited “Megalopolis” and Jacques Audiard and his “Emilia Perez”.

In addition, regular festival guests will appear in Cannes in May, including Ali Abbasi, David Cronenberg, Sean Baker and Kirill Serebrennikov.

We are particularly pleased with the presence of Magnus von Horn in the Main Competition. The director was born in Sweden, and in 2013 he graduated from the Film and Television Directing Department of the National Film School in Łódź. In 2015, his feature debut “Intruz” received awards for directing and screenplay at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia. His next work, 2020's “Sweat,” won Silver Lions — the event's second award — and an honorable mention for directing.

“Mamka”, his latest film, is a Polish-Swedish co-production. The photos were taken in Lower Silesia. The main roles were played by Trine Dyrholm, Vic Carmen Sonne and Besir Zeciri. The film is based on the story of Dagmar Overbye, a Danish infanticide sentenced to death in 1921.
