Will Marzenka win the hearts of viewers? Julia Chętnicka on her role in “Wróbel”

During the 25th Summer Film Academy in Zwierzyniec we had the opportunity meet the director and cast of the film “Sparrow”. Not only could festival participants ask their guests questions directly, but the Interia editorial team also managed to invite the main actors for a short conversation.

We got to know Julia Chętnicka thanks to her performances in “Na Wspólnej”, “Miłość na zakręcie”, or “Królowa”, in which she appeared alongside Andrzej Seweryn. The role in “Wróbel” is unique in several respects. During the conversation with the actress, we asked about it how her adventure with acting began.

“This adventure has been going on for a long time. Actually, since I was a teenager, I have always tried my hand at it. I went to the “U Machulski” Theater Centers, I tried to get into acting schools, but I didn’t succeed – I tried for 4 or 5 years in a row, but I decided not to give up. Taking advantage of the fact that I live in Warsaw, where the film industry is very developed, I often went to castings and kept trying,” Chętnicka revealed. She also told me what appeals to her most about this job – “The opportunity to live different lives.”

As you can see, the young actress’s effort and persistence paid off and now Julia Chętnicka has performed in the role of the equally unyielding Marzenka in the film “The Sparrow”. Who is her character? We asked the actress to introduce the character to our readers and tell us about her from her own perspective.

“Marzenka is a new neighbor, she moves into the house next to the main character. She is a girl who is 30 years old, has a conservative approach to family and, since one relationship doesn’t work out for her, she tries to quickly get into another one and start a family. In her eyes, Remek is the right candidate. (played by Jacek Borusiński) – is also an easy target to ‘set up’ and Marzenka does everything to achieve her goals. But I also think that she has good intentions – she wants good for herself and for him and does nothing at his expense and he will probably also find happiness in a simple, family life” – Chętnicka said.

Julia Chętnicka is a very lively person and with great energy he spoke about her career and her performance in Tomasz Gąssowski’s film. So the question about how much she has in common with the film’s heroine could not be left out. Julia Chętnicka denies the similarities and explains:

“We are completely different — is a completely different person. Of course, sometimes there are common features: each of us likes things to go our way, but when it comes to personality or way of being, it seems to me that they are completely different. People who don’t know me may get the impression that we (with Marzenka) have a lot in common, but for example my closest friends know that this is completely untrue, that she is a completely different person,” the actress explained.

And what, according to Julia Chętnicka, was the biggest challenge in this role? As it turns out, it was the differences in the approach to life of the actress and her character that were the biggest challenge – For the needs of this production she had to change her views a bit.

“I’m quite a big feminist, so I had a bit of a problem with the fact that this role is conservative. It has a completely different approach and the challenge was to hide ‘my feminist’ and actually surpass myself,” the actress revealed in an interview with Interia.

In the role of Remek we can see Jacek Borusiński, who is an experienced actor and has been appearing on cinema screens and elsewhere for years. How was the cooperation between Julia Chętnicka and the actor playing the main role?

“We had many rehearsals together, so we had the opportunity to get to know each other beforehand, we talked a lot, but the cool thing about working on the set is that you can never finally determine what the scene will look like until the end. (…) It was great that even when something was already determined, Jacek surprised me many times, made me laugh with his personality and character. I also think we got along very well and it was a great job.”

When asked what her dreams are, the actress revealed that dreams of appearing alongside… Bradley Cooper.

“He’s just great, and apart from the fact that he’s handsome, I really like the fact that he’s brave: he directs movies and acts in them, gets Oscars for it. I think that would be one of those dreams – to act with him.”

And what are the young actress’s favorite films?

“Definitely ‘Mama’ directed by Xavier Dolan, in a pop style, but on important topics. Since I mentioned Bradley Cooper earlier, it’s definitely ‘A Star is Born’. And the third film I’ll mention is one that kind of made me want to be an actress – ‘The Cure for Love’ with Kalina Jędrusik. It was the first movie, I was 6 years old and I really liked the way she answered those phones and her hoarse voice. I think I watched that movie 15 times”
