The series “The Office PL” quite unexpectedly became a huge hit. It was recently announced that a fifth season has been ordered.
The actress took part in BNP Paribas Warsaw SerialCon, the first festival in Poland dedicated to TV series. During an interview for Interia, she talked about working on the beloved series and the criticism that the creators initially had to face. She also admitted that she owes a lot to this production because it was her first such a large project.
“There was some controversy. I would even go a little further, we were met with, to put it crudely, hate. It absolutely surprised us all. I had a feeling of very high quality of this project from the very beginning, as soon as we started shooting and when I received the first texts, that were related to this project, but I had the impression that people would not give us a chance, that it would be ruined due to the bad reputation of ‘The Office PL’. We were written off by many people from the very beginning because we are making a Polish adaptation. As if we were taking away someone’s ability to watch the American version. I’m very happy that we succeeded, that people gave us a chance and that with the quality of the text we proved that it’s cool and that we can do it too,’ she said in an interview during the festival.
The actress admitted that the unfavorable opinions that appeared on the Internet included: moments after publishing the first, rather unsuccessful announcement, they worked well for the creators because they stopped being afraid of viewers’ expectations:
“This paradoxically took the pressure off us. Nobody thought it could be any good and we could just do our own thing.”
Kornelia Strzelecka admitted that she is currently receiving a lot of support from fans of the character she plays. Internet users get involved in the events presented in the series and often share their opinions and hopes related to the future fate of Asia Kasprzyk. During the interview, the actress also admitted that she is ready for further professional challenges and genres other than comedy. An example of her dream role was Charlize Theron’s role in the film “Monster” (2003).
“It’s about the chance to play a character who is actually very far from me, who hides behind a mask, who changes physically and also undergoes a major mental transformation. I would probably wish for something like that. If it were physically difficult, because If it was challenging or difficult because of the skills and languages I would suddenly have to learn, then it would be an absolutely perfect situation,” she said.
During the conversation, she also talked about what the series means to her personally. She mentioned that recently she was particularly impressed by two titles: “Ripley” and the Polish production “The Raven”.
“The series has undergone a major transformation from being such inferior cinema, something that great actors and creators did not touch at all. Suddenly it turned out that due to the platform’s reach and large subsidies, it opened up to quality content. (…) It gives the opportunity to tell a story in greater detail, the ability to delve into the characters’ emotions and behavior. Much more can be shown,” she concluded.
