On Monday, September 9, the Interia editorial team had the opportunity to visit the set of the film “Vinci 2”. The cult production returns to beautiful Krakow and once again we can expect unforgettable emotions. What did we learn from Juliusz Machulski and the stars of “Vinci 2”?
The production directed by Juliusz Machulski hit cinemas in 2004. After several years of serving a sentence for burglary, Cuma is released from prison due to poor health. His release is arranged by Gruby, a fence who orders Cuma to steal Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “Lady with an Ermine” from the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow. Cuma, a specialist in art theft, assembles a team.
Rumors about the return of “Vinci” have been circulating for a long time, but now it’s certain! “Vinci 2” will be made and work on the sequel has already begun!
Upon entering the film set at the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow, it was impossible not to notice the exceptionally friendly atmosphere among the actors. There was no shortage of smiles, jokes and friendly quips. We asked Juliusz Machulskiwhat a meeting after 20 years on the set of “Vinci” looks like.
“It’s like a meeting at the 20th anniversary of high school graduation,” the director commented with a smile.
The action of the new production is to be set in 2024 – exactly 20 years after the events of the first part. The heroes of the film have been affected by the passage of time and many changes in their biographies. Although the actors could not reveal too much, we know that the lives of some of them look completely different now.
Boris Szyc revealed that Szerszeń fulfilled one of his dreams — he is with Magda, but in other aspects he failed. And how has filming in the royal city changed? He gave the answer in the recording below.
The set also included Łukasz Simlatwhose character spread his wings in the police. And what made the actor return to the role from 20 years ago?
“Duty. No one else could play that role,” he replied with a laugh.
The film will also feature young actors, including the exceptional Zofia Jastrzębska, who has been conquering the Polish film industry with her recent roles. The young actress made herself known to audiences in Netflix’s “The Girl and the Astronaut”, but the role of Karolina Borowska in this series was not her first in her career. Born in 1998, Jastrzębska made her screen debut in 2019 in an episode of “Zameldowani”. She later appeared in “Zakochani pouszki” and “Na dobre i na złe”.
The Netflix series brought her immense popularity. In “Infamia” she played the role of the main character, Gita. The series won the hearts of viewers, not only in Poland, but also abroad. Recently, viewers could see the 25-year-old actress in the streaming giant’s film “Colors of Evil: Red”.
In the latest production by Juliusz Machulski, she plays the role of Kornelia, Werbus’ daughter, who also becomes entangled in the latest intrigue.
How does a young actress find her way around experienced actors on a film set? Jastrzębska doesn’t waste time and absorbs knowledge from her older colleagues.
Of course, the director, Juliusz Machulski, could not be absent from the production set. When asked how the work of recording the film changed, he replied:
“You say recording, but back then we still called it shooting. The second change is that films used to be more interesting than their trailers – today it’s the other way around. There were more films for Oscars than statuettes.”
The director also shared his reflections on working with young actors.
“I can only speak in superlatives, especially about Zosia, who played brilliantly in ‘Infamia’, that’s where I remember her. (…) The same goes for Piotrek Witkowski, whom I hired, or Jędrzej Hycnar. I have to admit that they are even better prepared for the profession than the renowned actors I was lucky enough to work with a long time ago – they are more prepared and know the text better,” revealed Juliusz Machulski.
The premiere of “Vinci 2” is scheduled for 2025.
