Urszula Dudziak recalls her husband’s betrayal. “I was blind and naive”

Urszula Dudziak is one of the world’s leading jazz vocalists. Her characteristic way of singing stole the hearts of millions of listeners. The singer, despite many albums to her credit, is associated primarily with the song “Papaya”which she recorded in 1976.

The artist has been associated with the jazzman for many years, Michał Urbaniak, who also helped her in her professional career. Unfortunately, it turned out that the artist was unlucky in love. The couple got along perfectly professionally, but they had many problems in their private lives. They had two children, Catherine and Mickeybut the marriage was ruined by betrayal.

In the mid-1980s, the marriage of Urszula Dudziak and Michał Urbaniak broke up. The jazzman left his wife for an actress Liliana Głąbczyńska-Komorowska“I became a jazz singer from Poland, with two small children, no money,” commented Urszula Dudziak years later.

Recently, the 80-year-old singer gave an interview for the “Twój Styl” magazine, in which she recalled the difficult moments after her husband’s betrayal. She confessed that time had taken its toll – today she looks at the issues of infidelity and forgiveness completely differently.

“Forgiveness for me is agreeing to what I cannot change. Accepting the fact that I do not have control over everything. (…) Coming to terms with the fact that life sometimes writes scenarios that it does not agree with me. I also have no influence on the decisions of others. But when my husband cheated on me and left me years ago, I was not so enlightened,” confessed Urszula Dudziak.

The singer emphasized that she felt humiliated right after her beloved’s betrayal. It turns out that many people from the artist’s close circle, as well as from the media, knew about the jazzman’s affair. “I was drowning in despair and could not come to terms with the facts. It was accompanied by the humiliation of being blind and naive. The whole of Manhattan was buzzing with rumors about his affair, and I was the only one who did not read the signals,” Dudziak said.

The star found out that her husband was unfaithful completely by accident. One day, Michał Urbaniak decided to go to a fortune teller to tell his future. He recorded a conversation with the clairvoyant, in which he mentioned his new object of desire. He called Urszula Dudziak his “old wife” and wondered what he should do with the marriage that no longer interested him.

“He had a habit of recording important conversations, so a few days later, when he went to see this clairvoyant, he asked me for a blank cassette tape. When he returned, he announced that the meeting had been disappointing. And that was it. The next day we attended a nativity play together at our daughters’ school. He recorded them there. performance with a camera. In his equipment bag, I saw the cassette that I gave him. Something touched me… I went out with it to the room next to it, where there was a tape recorder, and I listened to it, telling the fortune teller that he was wildly in love and didn’t know what to do with his old wife! Old wife?! It was like an earthquake for me!” – a wounded Urszula Dudziak described the whole incident.

The singer confessed that her husband finally admitted to the affair and that they tried to save their long-term marriage. However, it turned out that they fought in vain and eventually gave up, and the jazzman moved out of the house, leaving Urszula Dudziak alone with the children.

Urszula Dudziak claims that any betrayal can be forgiven, although it may seem impossible. “Not only can you do it, you have to! I’m not saying it’s easy. (…) In the past, I had low self-esteem and a suitcase of complexes, so it was easy to get hurt. And when there are a lot of these hurts, there is a temptation to dwell on them. Feed on regret and pain,” the singer explained.
