“Transatlantyk 2010”: Jacek Braciak will play Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński. Will there be controversy?

In the TVP program “A Hundred Questions for…” Jacek Braciak commented on his participation in the film “Transatlantyk 2010” by Bartosz Kruhlik, in which he will play the roles of Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński. The production arouses great emotions in our country. The actor was asked by the program’s host Wioleta Wramba whether he was not afraid to take on this role and thus be judged by the highly polarized Polish society.

“I am only afraid of God and human tears. First of all. Secondly, it’s a truism, but thinking this way, I couldn’t play a gay because I would be accused of being gay. For me it doesn’t matter whether it’s Tadeusz Kościuszko, or are these the Kaczyński brothers, if this is interesting material that allows me to travel constantly forward,” Braciak assured.

“If the ‘Scythe’ script were some sort of hagiography of our national hero, I wouldn’t appear in it. I wouldn’t play President Kaczyński in Smolensk, because it’s another completely one-dimensional thing. I see nothing wrong with accepting proposals that present a level of complexity that satisfies me” – he added.

The actor stated that the film being made will be “neither a panegyric nor a political satire.”

“Of course, you will immediately guess that we are talking about Mr. Kaczyński, but I was very interested in it because the plot is not based on politics. To put it briefly, in order not to reveal what the film may one day be about, that is, its a kind of internal hell: is there one person or two in one person? This is a kind of dependency that is beyond life, beyond death. These are the great words that interest me,” Braciak admitted.

In the same program, the star was also asked about when he managed to get rid of complexes related to his height and origin.

“First, I stopped being ashamed of my origins. I come from Rzekcin, and I was born in Drezdenko, near Strzelce Krajeńskie. A very small village, thirteen houses, actually a hamlet. It was the first time I understood that my origins and value system, a number of things such as emotionality , sensitivity, but also your own views, are something valuable,” Braciak said.

As for height, he said that “first of all, there’s nothing I can do.”

“Secondly, it turned out that women were not bothered by my height at all. At that time, it was the most important thing for me. And the third thing that resulted in me coming to terms with myself: I noticed that there were different offers in the roles and despite my circumstances, I did not “I’m put in a drawer,” he confessed.

“We’re talking about breaking open doors. For God’s sake, Robert De Niro is lying when he says he’s 174 cm. He’s under 170 cm, Al Pacino is 160 cm, and Dustin Hoffman shot ‘The Graduate’ in the late 1960s and it didn’t bother anyone. I’m six feet four. When it comes down to it, we’re still a backwater, the star concluded.
